# VDS split\_multi vs MT split\_multi\_hts difference?

I am considering the most efficient way to process a large VDS file. Is there a difference between split\_multi on a VDS file versus a VDS file converted to a matrix\_table and then applying split\_multi\_hts? Is split\_multi\_hts required for an MT produced from VDS, or can extra formatting already be assumed to be completed?
