A Hail user recently discovered exorbitant ($600) charges from Stackdriver after using a small cluster of a few dozen machines over the course of a day. It is currently unclear whether this was simply a billing error or not, but we have pushed a change to cloudtools to disable Stackdriver monitoring and logging, and that fix is available in version 3.0.7:
pip install -U cloudtools
